The Java Bar harkens back to a different era. With a quiet, cool sophistication it stands out from many of Panama City’s other nightspots and brings a breath of the New York Village to home.
Located on Harrison Avenue, in the revitalized downtown of Panama City, the Java plays to a different clientele who enjoy a cappuccino as much as they do a cold beer. Where else can one sip a brew or an excellent cup of Joe and listen to an area musician or poet?
At the Java Bar you will find local writers, artists, poets, musicians and actors discussing their latest project and enjoying a sandwich with their beverage of choice.
On the enclosed patio you can listen to musicians whose musical tastes range from folk, jazz and the old Sinatra-style standards.
In the open patio many patrons sit, have a smoke and enjoy a poetry reading by one of the talented poets. The vibe at Java’s is definitely more beatnik than MTV. Think Kerouac, with a pinch of Dylan, and add a few cold ones and some coffee and you have the Java.
Another great thing about the Java is its location. Located between the Martin Theatre and the Civic Center, you can see a show and then walk to the Java for a perfect ending to a good night. It’s also right across from McKenzie Park, so you may want to take a walk through the park.
If you’ve been searching for a quiet place to get away or to hear great music and poetry while having a brew or coffee, the Java is for you. Many people even bring their notebooks since the creative atmosphere is infectious. You may even be inspired yourself.
