FORT WALTON BEACH - If you are looking for a local joint that features good music and great service, steer clear of Pirate's Cove in Fort Walton Beach.
Fortunately, this is not the reason why locals frequent this bar again and again. Only one word is necessary to explain the Cove – karaoke.
Boasting a selection of more than 25,000 karaoke songs, Pirate’s Cove always has a long list of people willing to sing their hearts out even if they have absolutely no talent. An excellent singing voice is highly overrated when intoxicated locals are just looking to be the center of attention for five minutes.
Karaoke may be the main attraction, but it is not the first thing you see when walking through the doors of Pirate’s Cove.
Get ready for a blast from the past! Pirate’s Cove is a bit rundown. Featuring a 1970s lounge look, the walls are covered with what appears to be pink paneling. The floors are decked with red and brown carpeting displaying the latest burns and stains. The look of Pirate’s Cove is completed with round wooden tables and chairs covered in leather.
After taking in the delightful scenery, it is time to catch your breath. The great thing about the air is that if you are a smoker, it is not necessary to light a cigarette. All you have to do is inhale and exhale – the same amount of smoke and nicotine enter your lungs as if you had smoked an actual cigarette. As for the non-smokers, how long can you hold your breath?
The service leaves little to be desired. If you are in a hurry to get a beer, step outside, run to the nearest gas station, grab a 40 oz. beer, drink it down fast and return to the bar. Chances are you still beat the bartender before she approaches you and asks you what your order is. Although slow service is not offered to everyone, the majority of women will see a difference in pace.
Bottom Line
Bad service, horrible singing and billows of smoke all come together under one roof at Pirate’s Cove. If you like that sort of thing, Pirate’s Cove is just the place for you.
